That’s the theme of this week’s testimony Tuesday! Juan is a reminder that it’s never too late to change your life! Juan’s not only been a blessing to our coffee program, Volente, but also as an example for other men joining the program. Check out his story below!
“I remember moving a lot as a kid, we even stayed in a bunch of hotels. As I got older, I started to pay attention to the lifestyle my mother lived, but there wasn’t anything I could do. My mother was often abused by her boyfriends, then I got to the age that I was able to stop it. Eventually, I became a gang member, using and selling drugs. I faced incarceration, followed by a cycle of living in different places, again. After facing juvenile hall, jail, and then prison, all because of drugs, bad decisions, and bad company, I finally surrendered and came to the Mission to join the New Life Program. I never knew a place like this existed. Since being here I have regained my work ethic and when the opportunity arose for me to join Volente Coffee I joyfully accepted. This is a brand-new experience for me. I love challenging myself. I love to see people smile and the reason that Volente matters to me is because I love to serve a good cup of joe with joy. My life has been a roller coaster, but I am so grateful that I was told about the Mission.”
