Following the will of God is exactly what Leonora did. Coming from a past of chaos and loss, she turned her story into triumph. Check out how this week’s graduate spotlight, became one of our amazing staff members.
“I grew up in a very violent, chaotic, and verbally abusive household. I had my daughter when I was 20 and then got into drugs when she was about 2. I had my son when I was 26 but couldn’t stop using. After attempting a drug replacement medicine and failing, I lost both of my children to CPS. This only led my addiction to grow worse. I was in and out of jail, and I became very mentally broken and couldn’t cope. I was in active addiction for 11 years before coming to the Mission. I joined the New Life Program and after being here for 10 months, the Lord told me to “serve.” So, I did. I took a one-year commitment to serve here in the “rescue” internship. However, 6 months in, I was offered a position as a Service Supervisor. Since being employed with the Modesto Gospel Mission I have been blessed to serve those in need. Loving on people that may not receive love anywhere else! I get to pray with women and watch the Lord’s hand move. I get to encourage and help with resources while maintaining a healthy structure for the current women in our New Life Program. It is amazing to work here. We get to testify of and witness the Lord’s restoration in lives. The Mission has taught me what it really means to be a Christ follower. James 2:16-18 says, “and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed,” but [if] you don’t give them what the body needs, what good is it?” I am forever grateful for the Modesto Gospel Mission, I honestly don’t know if restoration would have been possible without the Mission. Being here allowed for my foundation to be built and rooted in Christ first.”
