Happy New Year!
This past year the Modesto Gospel Mission witnessed God moving in the hearts of the men, women and kids that walked through our doors. I am so thankful that God continues to show mercy and grace to all that we serve in this wonderful community. I love the verses out of Ephesians 2:4-5 which states, “But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions-it is by grace you have been saved”. Also, thank you all for your support both financially and volunteering during this past year. We cannot do this without you. Remember, this is your Mission and together we are the hands and feet of Christ.
Blessings.

I grew up in a very strict household where we were always getting hit for making mistakes. When I was 7 years old, the police stepped in and took me away from my parents. After my parents were released from jail, the abuse got worse. At 8 years old, my brother and I were hit by a car while riding a bike. This accident nearly took my brother's life. The abuse stopped, but my mom became a severe alcoholic.
I was a mess. When I was older, I was in a DUI accident that took the life of my best friend. The guilt and shame were driving me to insanity. I couldn't cope with this, and abused drugs and alcohol. Then my son started feeling sick and was diagnosed with Graves disease. I eventually ended up homeless. At that point I came to the Mission.
I've since completely surrendered my heart to Jesus. When I showed up I was broken, but God put me back together. I got to visit my son and won custody of him. I have so many friends here at the Mission. I got my driver's license back after many years without it. I've started an internship at the Mission, and I love every minute of it.
I want to work here at the Mission full time, and eventually go to school. I would love to one day own a car and live in a place where I can have my son live with me. I plan on being a better father to my son and provide him with everything l can.
Jesus wants to change your life like He has mine. He loves and cares for you. There is freedom in surrendering your way of doing things to follow Jesus.

A New Year is coming! Are we ready? Hoping that it will be much better than this past year, with its disappointments, hurts and heartaches? Dear Friend, the year ahead can be different for us by making choices to obey God’s Word, follow Jesus’ example, and live for Him. Three choices we can make with God’s help:
- Choose Love: Love for God and love for others.
- Choose Joy: Refuse to be critical and moody–look for the best, not the worst, in others.
- Choose Peace: Live a contented, thankful Christian life.
Dear Lord, please shine Your light on us so that we can become more like Jesus. We want to make a difference in 2023 for Your honor and glory!
We are so very thankful for our loving and generous volunteers and donors at the Modesto Gospel Mission! We say it, and we say it again . . . God uses you, special friends, to make hope possible where there is often no hope. It is God’s work, but the awesome and humbling fact is that God uses ordinary people to accomplish His work! What a privilege to be a part of the amazing work that is happening at the Mission! May God continue to richly bless you and your loved ones in this New Year!
God’s Special Blessing,
